La Directors Guild of America premia il talento cinematografico dell’anno con la 76a edizione dei DGA Awards. La cerimonia ha preso il via al PT al Beverly Hilton Hotel di Beverly Hills.

Il presidente della DGA, Lesli Linka Glatter, ha aperto la serata con un riconoscimento degli scioperi SAG-AFTRA e Writers Guild of America che hanno costretto gli studios a sospendere le produzioni per sei mesi l’anno scorso.
La stagione dei premi di Oppenheimer continua con il regista Christopher Nolan che si è aggiudicato l’Outstanding Directorial Achievement in Theatrical Feature Film.
E’ la quinta volta per Nolan, essendo stato precedentemente nominato per Memento nel 2002, Il cavaliere oscuro nel 2009, Inception nel 2011 e Dunkirk nel 2018. La sua prima vittoria ai DGA indica significativamente che il regista britannico sarà il miglior regista agli Oscar; i DGA Awards, uno dei migliori barometri per determinare chi vince il premio come miglior regista agli Academy Awards.
A consegnare il premio a Nolan sono stati i vincitori del DGA Award Feature Film dell’anno scorso, Daniel Scheinert e Dan Kwan di Everything Everywhere All at Once. Nolan, dopo aver parlato in precedenza durante la sua presentazione delle nomination ha mantenuto un breve discorso sul palco, riconoscendo la forza della DGA nella lotta per i diritti dei registi. Inoltre, Nolan ha ringraziato i suoi colleghi per la vittoria.
Tra i rivali di Nolan per il miglior regista c’erano Martin Scorsese (Killers of the Flower Moon), Greta Gerwig (Barbie), Yorgos Lanthimos (Poor Things) e Alexander Payne (The Holdovers).
Nolan ha già vinto il premio come miglior regista ai Golden Globes e ai Critics Choice. È anche nominato ai BAFTA per il miglior film, sceneggiatura adattata e regia.
