Tante le sorprese ai Bafta Tv Awards 2022, con alcuni dei  favoriti usciti sconfitti .

La star di Killing Eve Jodie Comer ha ottenuto il suo secondo BAFTA da attrice protagonista, questa volta per Help, il dramma scritto da Jack Thorne sulla crisi nelle case di cura britanniche durante la pandemia di COVID-19.

Help ha vinto due premi, così come la serie carceraria Time di Jimmy McGovern, che ha visto Sean Bean vincere come miglior attore protagonista.‎

 It’s A Sin, l’acclamata serie di Russell T. Davies sull’epidemia di AIDS, arrivata con sei nomination è andata via  a mani vuote.

‎Anche Sex Education  con due nomination non ha ottenuto premi, così come We Are Lady Parts. Motherland, Alma’s Not Normal e Stath Lets Flats hanno raccolto vittorie.‎

‎Steve McQueen, che ha perso un BAFTA per la sua acclamata serie Small Axe nel 2021, ha rivendicato un premio per la serie doc Uprising che ha realizzato insieme a James Rogan.‎

‎In una cerimonia definita altamente politicizzata, molti dei discorsi hanno visto i vincitori dare il loro sostegno alle emittenti di servizio pubblico, in particolare Channel 4, che il governo del Regno Unito sta attualmente  pianificando di privatizzare.‎

Dennis Kelly, che ha vinto il premio per il dramma Together, ha letto una dichiarazione schiacciante del COVID-19 Survivors Group U.K. che attacca la risposta del governo durante la pandemia.‎

‎La serata ha visto anche Billy Connelly ricevere la BAFTA Fellowship, la più alta onorificenza della British Academy.
